Hyperhidrosis (Botox for Excessive Sweating)

Hyperhidrosis is the medical term for excessive sweating. Botox® is injected into the skin to treat the symptoms of severe underarm sweating (severe axillary hyperhidrosis) when medicines used on the skin (topical) do not work well enough.

How Does Botox® Work?
Botox® temporarily blocks the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulates the sweat glands. When the swear glands don't receive chemical signals, severe underarm sweating is reduced.

How Effective is Botox® Treatment?
Botox® is proven to work. A clinical study found that 57 out of 104 patients treated with Botox® (55%) ahcieved an effective response, and 84 out of 104 patients treated with Botox® (81%) achieved a greater than 50% reduction in sweating.

When Do I First Notice Results?
You should notice a significant reduction in underarm sweating within 4 weeks after your first treatment.

How Long Do the Results Last?
In a clinical study, patients had drier underarms for up to 6.7 months. Though individual results may vary.

The Botox® Procedure
The procedure is fairly simple.Small injections will be made into the affected underarm area through a very fine needle. A local numbing cream can also be used if you are concerned about discomfort during treatment. The Botox® treatment takes only a few minutes, requires no anesthetic, recovery is immediate, and you can resume your normal daily activities that same day.

How much does Botox® treatment cost?
The cost of treatment varies depending on your insurance coverage. Many sufferers are pleased to find out their insurance plans cover all or most of their Botox® treatments. For specific details on coverage, contact your insurance company.
