Acne Clinic

Waiting for acne to clear on its own can be frustrating. It also can lead to permanent scarring, poor self-esteem, depression, and anxiety. To avoid these physical and emotional scars, Dermatologists like Dr. Malcolm recommend that acne be properly treated. Treatment should continue for as long as necessary to prevent the acne from recurring.

At Rejuvaderm, Dr. Malcolm has a designated Acne Clinic where she offers comprehensive medical and cosmetic treatments for acne. Medical treatments are covered by Alberta Health.  A referral from your family physician is required to see Dr. Malcolm because she is a specialist physician.

What is Acne?
Acne is the most common skin condition in Canada and the United States. It presents with plugged pores, pimples, and deeper cysts. Acne can occur at any age, but most people who have acne are teenagers and young adults. Each year, 85% percent of Canadian and U.S. teenagers will have acne. Up to 12% of women and 3% of men will continue to have acne until their mid 40s.

What Cosmetic Acne Treatments are Available?
At Rejuvaderm, we offer a number of advanced cosmetic acne treatments including:

  • Skin care products designed to specifically target acne
  • Microdermabrasion, medical grade
  • Chemical Peels, medical grade
  • Photodynamic Therapy (sometimes covered by drug plans)

Acne Scarring
Once the acne has been treated, Dr. Malcolm will review with you the various medical, cosmetic, and laser treatment options for acne scarring and customize a safe and effective treatment plan that meets your personal goals, lifestyle, and budget. Since acne scars can be unique and often have complex characteristics, the most successful results come from an individualized treatment plan.

Acne scarring is a medical condition and as such should be treated by a qualified physician and not a technician.  Be wary of other laser clinics offering laser treatments for acne and acne scarring as the most effective laser proven to work for acne scarring is the fractionated CO2 resurfacing laser.  There is presently no laser proven to work for active acne.  We are the only clinic in Grande Prairie where you will be assessed by a qualified physician and all laser treatments are performed by a physician (Dr. Malcolm or Dr. Wong).
