Soft Tissue Fillers

Soft tissue fillers are a safe and effective treatment for adding volume to the skin and lifting up wrinkles and folds. They are used to ‘plump’ up the lips, sculpt the cheeks, and restore a youthful shape to the face. Cheeks, smile lines (nasolabial folds), lips and lip borders, smoker’s lines, and the jaw area are the most common areas of the face treated. Soft tissue fillers can also be used for treating certain types of acne scars. The procedure takes 10-30 minutes depending upon the area treated.

Why Should I See Dr. Wong and Jennifer for My Soft Tissue Fillers?
Dr. Wong is the only Head & Neck surgeon in this area offering cosmetic treatments for the face.  Both have advanced certification in Fillers and are well experienced in the procedure. Dr. Wong and Jennifer will assess your facial muscles and areas of facial volume loss to customize your treatments and at the same time give you long-lasting natural looking results. Dr. Wong and Jennifer provide their patients with the option of follow-up after the procedure (and in fact at any point in time) to ensure you are completely happy with the results.

What is Juvederm?
Juvederm is a clear transparent hyaluronic acid gel that is injected into the skin. Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of the skin that gives it volume and is lost with age (resulting in wrinkles, furrows, and volume loss). The hyaluronic acid in Juvederm combines with water in your skin to restore lost volume and reduce lines and wrinkles. It also stimulates collagen production.

Why Do We Prefer Juvederm Over Other Soft Tissue Fillers?
We most commonly use Juvederm (Ultra Plus, Voluma, Volbella and Volift) for several reasons. First, it is a very smooth and consistent gel that provides natural looking, long-lasting results. Second, in terms of safety, the way the hyaluronic acid is cross-linked to form a very smooth gel makes it extremely unlikely to form any skin reactions or nodules. A nice advantage is it is easily dissolved if needed by a special enzyme within hours. Lastly, because it contains lidocaine (a numbing agent), patients find treatment much more comfortable.

How Is Juvederm Performed? Is It Painful?
Juvederm using a very fine sterile needle. Some patients describe mild discomfort but overall most patients tolerate it very well.  To minimize discomfort, Dr. Malcolm and Dr. Wong use Juvederm with lidocaine (numbing agent).

How Long Before I See Results? How Long Does Juvederm Last? What Will My Skin Look Like Without Touch-up Treatments?
Results are seen immediately. Juvederm Ultra and Juvederm Ultra Plus last 9-12 months. Juvederm Voluma lasts upto 18 months.  The correction will gradually disappear until your skin looks just as it did before the treatment because as the gel breaks down, water takes it place.

What Side-Effects are Possible?
Juvederm is generally very well tolerated. Temporary skin reactions such are redness, swelling, itching, or bruising are the most common side-effects seen.

Who Should Not Have Juvederm?
Patients who have a known allergy to hyaluronic acid, are pregnant, breast-feeding, have inflammatory (such as acne) or infectious skin problems in the treatment area, or patients with a history of autoimmune diseases should not be treated.

What is the Cost?
The cost is determined by the number of syringes of Juvederm needed.
